A Dynamic New Sunday Routine
The UK’s airwaves are getting a major comedy upgrade. Renowned for his distinctive voice, quick-fire storytelling, and incredible warmth, Chris McCausland is set to take over the Sunday morning slot on Absolute Radio. Joining him in the studio is musical comedian Jon Long, a familiar face who has previously supported McCausland on tour.
The announcement was made official on The Dave Berry Breakfast Show, where McCausland shared his excitement about becoming a staple of the nation’s weekend routine.
Reflecting on his new early-morning gig and his chemistry with his co-host, Chris said:
“I’m not on tour at the minute, so I’m just fancy free and footloose and I’m an early riser anyway, the older I get, the earlier I wake up. So, I’m looking forward to it, to be there as part of people’s Sunday morning, filling their ears with drivel while they’re driving round and trying to avoid doing anything productive. That’s a win for me.”
He added:
“Jon is a brilliant comedian, and he’s done my tour support for quite some time, so we’ve spent a lot of time together. I’ve probably spent longer talking to Jon over a six-month block than I have my own wife. So, we’re used to talking nonsense to each other for some long car journeys and in dressing rooms. And he’s used to putting up with me for long periods of time. I mean, it’s not like he can just leap out of a moving car, is it? So, I’m hoping that in a stationary studio with a door, he doesn’t just walk out.”
What to Expect
Listeners can look forward to a mix of McCausland’s unique take on the week’s events, a celebration of his favourite music, and the hilariously brilliant observations that have made him a household name across the UK.
Absolute Radio Content Director, Paul Sylvester, expressed high praise for the station’s latest signing:
“Chris is a phenomenal talent - naturally funny, hugely relatable and completely original. His personality, humour and love of great music make him a perfect fit for Absolute Radio. We’re delighted to welcome him to the station and know our listeners are going to love spending Sunday mornings with him.”
This exciting radio launch follows a massively successful period for McCausland, whose historic Strictly Come Dancing victory captured the hearts of the nation. Already established as one of the country’s premier stand-up comics, his transition to a weekly radio host cements his status as a versatile, deeply relatable entertainer who effortlessly connects with audiences on stage, screen, and audio.
