The music industry has a new chosen one, and she goes by the name of Taylor Swift.
Fresh off a career-defining month, rising artist Sombr sat down with Jimmy Fallon to chat about his meteoric rise. Naturally, conversation swiftly turned to his career-affirming moment earlier this month when he inducted Taylor Swift into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and performed a pair of her songs on the night.
Choosing the Tracks
Stepping onto that stage would terrify most artists, but knowing you were the global superstar’s first choice adds a whole new level of weight to the evening.
“It was crazy,” he recounts. “It was really her night and she wanted me, out of all the people she could have asked, to perform two songs to help induct her.”
When asked if the “Anti-Hero” singer gave him a specific setlist, Sombr revealed that Swift handed over the reins entirely.
“So, basically I was like, ‘Taylor, what songs do you want me to sing? You know, this is your night.’ And she was like, ‘no. You choose.’”
That creative freedom, he admits, “really put the pressure on.”
After taking a deep dive into Swift’s massive discography, he finally settled on two tracks and sent them over for approval. Her response was, “perfect.”
On the night, he performed “Dear John” and “Cardigan.” Pressure off.

It turns out Swift has the highest of hopes for Sombr, and is almost jealous of his talents. That’s according to TayTay herself.
During the interview, Fallon took a moment to read for his audience some comments from the pop superstar, singing the praises of the precocious artist.
“His writing is so exceptional, that it makes me actually envious. He’s going to be the top of my Spotify Wrapped this year, guaranteed. Sombr is the future.”
With praise like that from one of the greatest songwriters of a generation, it’s safe to say Sombr’s trajectory is headed straight for the stratosphere.
